Why Gluten-Free Makeup Matters for Celiacs

As individuals with celiac disease, we know that gluten wreaks havoc on our digestive system. But what about our skin?

Seeking out gluten-free beauty products isn’t always easy.  But there is peace of mind being able to bite your lip or spray your hair without worry. Many of those who battle gluten sensitivity, opt for gluten-free makeup and body products.
Irritated eyes and skin are clues to stay away from gluten.

Here’s the lowdown:

Skin Sensitivity:

Some celiacs experience skin reactions due to gluten exposure.
Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), an autoimmune blistering disorder associated with gluten sensitivity, can cause painful skin lesions.

        Ingestion Risk:
While gluten molecules are too large to penetrate the skin barrier, accidental ingestion is a concern.

Think about lipsticks, lip glosses, lotions and hair sprays can find their way into your mouth.
