Empowerment

In Outland Denim's early days, Founding CEO, James Bartle travelled to Asia with an anti-trafficking group and saw first hand how human traffickers prey on vulnerable young girls. He then learnt that once a girl has been rescued and integrated into her family or community, a sustainable career path is vital for securing her future. From here, Outland Denim was founded as an avenue for the training, employment, and career progression for women who had experienced exploitation. Today Outland Denim welcomes employees from varying backgrounds of vulnerability and social injustice to offer opportunity, skills acquisition, living wages and education. The Harriet Jean How Outland Denim are revolutionising the denim industry | Biome Eco Stores | Ethical Fashion, Slow Fashion, Sustainable Fashion The Harriet jean is one of Outland Denim's most popular women's jeans, and for good reason. It's the staple high-rise skinny jean with a sophisticated and flattering silhouette. The slightly faded wash gives an effortless vintage look. Cut from organic cotton blend to give the optimal amount of stretch. No gaping at the waist and no loosening at the ankle, Harriet hugs you in all the right places. And yes, this is the style the Duchess of Sussex wore during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 2018 official tour of Australia. Outland Denim were left with a huge waitlist after Meghan sported the jeans in Dubbo, NSW, but more importantly, within a month, Outland Denim were able to employ a further 46 seamstresses in their Cambodian operations giving these women the opportunity to earn living wages, amongst other benefits, while their longer serving staff were given the opportunity to be promoted to positions of leadership.

Along with empowerment, sustainability is at the forefront of everything that Outland Denim does. They do business in a way that makes sense for today, tomorrow, and for future generations by employing industry-leading water and energy reducing technology, and investing into research in-house and in partnership with universities and governments around the world.
