Some brands are built in boardrooms. Redecker was built in a small workshop by a blind brushmaker determined to support his family.
In 1935, Friedrich “Friedel” Redecker began handcrafting brushes after losing his eyesight as a child. Brushmaking was one of the few trades taught at the school for the blind in Germany at the time — and Friedel turned it into a livelihood through inventiveness, discipline and deep pride in his craft.
He sold brushes door-to-door. He stood at markets. He tested every design himself. Long before “quality materials” and “sustainability” became buzzwords, Friedel was obsessing over durability, function and feel. He kept making brushes until he was 72 — steadfast, meticulous and deeply committed to quality.
When he passed away in 1986, his youngest son reluctantly stepped in, intending only to sell off the remaining stock at a local market. Everything sold in a single weekend. Demand for those quality-crafted brushes and brooms was immediate — and the business carried on.
More than 90 years later, Redecker is still family-owned and now led by the third generation. The scale has grown, the reach is global — but the philosophy hasn’t changed: practical, beautiful tools designed to be used — not replaced.
