Are you finding it difficult to find a plastic free, toxin free tooth whitening powder?
Using just a few raw ingredients and our easy recipe below, you can make one in just a few minutes! Our DIY whitening teeth powder combines bentonite clay, activated charcoal and turmeric to detoxify and whiten teeth naturally, as well as bicarb to gently polish, sea salt to soothe, and peppermint essential oil for freshness.
Below we outline the benefits of the ingredients we've used.
Bentonite Clay works to eliminate toxins from heavy metals in your mouth, and is rich in minerals that can nourish teeth and gums.
Bicarb Soda is a natural cleanser that gently polishes and whitens teeth. It's less abrasive than most commercial toothpastes.
Turmeric acts as an all-natural cleanser and is antibacterial, deeply cleansing and whitening. It won't leave your teeth yellow!
Activated Charcoal has detoxifying and whitening properties, and helps make teeth feel clean and smooth. Activated charcoal can also balance the pH level of your mouth, preventing cavities and eliminating bacteria present in tooth decay and gingivitis.
Sea Salt is full of tooth-nourishing minerals and is helpful in healing irritated gums.
Peppermint Essential Oil is antibacterial, antiseptic and can relieve pain, making it beneficial for mouth and gum infections.
Natural Teeth Whitening Powder Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Bentonite Clay
- 1 tsp Bicarb Soda
- 1 tsp pure, unrefined Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- ½ tsp Activated Charcoal
- 10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
This recipe makes enough to fill approx. 1 x 80ml Glass Jar. As this recipe includes bentonite clay and activated charcoal, please do not store it in a metal container or a container with a metal lid.
Method
- Add the ingredients to a glass bowl and mix, until well combined, with a non-metal spoon.
- Stir in essential oil - if you don't have any peppermint oil, grind up some peppermint tea leaves.
- Sieve the mixture before bottling to combine ingredients and achieve a fine texture.
- Store in a small glass jar and seal.
How To Use
Using a small, non-metallic spoon, scoop a small amount of powder and place it under your tongue. Wet your toothbrush and use it to distribute the powder around the teeth and gums. Brush as normal and rinse well.
Provided you don't add water to this powder by dipping in your wet toothbrush, the powder will have a long shelf life of up to 12 months.
Tip: As with all DIY's, you may need to experiment to create the perfect powder for you. Try making a simple toothpaste by mixing 1 part tooth powder to 1 part coconut oil (at room temperature).
You can also make your own toothpaste with the addition of coconut oil. We have a recipe for that also here > natural toothpaste recipe.
