Below we outline the benefits of ingredients used.

Activated Charcoal has a strong, dark colour that makes it perfect for DIY eyeliner and mascara. It is also detoxifying and balances pH, so it can help improve the health of your eyelashes.

Shea Butter is moisturising and will nourish your eyelashes. It also creates a silky, smooth texture, making application easy.

Bentonite Clay is a gentle clay that’s rich in minerals. It also helps the mascara to stick to your lashes.

Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils not only create a fresh scent in your make-0up but they are both antibacterial, helping your DIY natural mascara last longer.

How to Make Your Own DIY Natural Mascara & Eyeliner

    Ingredients

    Method

Take care using the activated charcoal – it’s messy!

    1. With your mortar and pestle, mix all the ingredients together. Work the oils into the powder to create a smooth paste.
    2. Add an extra drop of oil if needed to make the mixture smooth and even. There should be no clumps.
    3. Scoop the paste into your tin or jar and smooth down using the back of a spoon (avoid metal when working with clay).
    4. Let settle for an hour before using. The natural mascara should be pliable and firm, but not hard.

    How To Use

Eyeliner: Dust your eyelids with a little mineral foundation powder before beginning. This will help the eyeliner to stay on. Then lightly dampen the eyeliner brush,  wipe off any excess water. Take the angled brush and slide it across the product to pick up some colour. Apply as normal. If you have never used this method before, it may take some practise applying. Clean your brush after each use.

Mascara: Dust your eyelids with a little mineral foundation, include your lashes. This will help the natural mascara to stay on. Then lightly dampen a clean mascara brush, gently wipe the bristles across the natural mascara to pick up some colour and apply to lashes as normal. Let dry on lashes and apply another coat if desired. Clean the brush after each use.

Note: This mascara is not waterproof and also may need to be re-applied later in the day or at night. It won’t make your lashes stiff, stand up or curl. To curl, use a lash curler before mascara application.

Tip: Use an old mascara brush that’s been thoroughly washed and dried. You can also lightly dust your lashes with foundation powder before applying mascara, for extra sticking power.

Use within 4-6 months. Regularly clean your mascara and eyeliner brush with warm, soapy water and let air dry. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight. Discontinue use if irritation occurs or if the smell changes.
