A pack of home compostable food and freezer bags made from a bio-plastic that is a mix of plant starch and fossil fuel derived ingredients.These bags are designed specifically to not create permanent microplastics and are truely earth friendly. Perfect for keeping food fresh in the fridge or freezer and suitable for all types of food. Can also be reused to collect scraps for your organic waste. 20 bags per pack, 6 litre bags.

Features

The world's first certified, fully home compostable plastic bags.

6L capacity.

Suitable for commercial and domestic use.

Other 'degradable' plastic bags on the market are polyethelene bags with a percentage of plant starch or additives. Degradable bags break down into pieces of plastic debris that do not compost.

To avoid misleading claims and be sure that the bags you purchase will actually compost rapidly and safely, look for independent certification. Our bags are fully certified to Australian Standard AS 4736, European Standard EN 13432 and the US Standard ASTM D6400 to be 100% home compostable. They contain no polyethylene.

Interesting info about these bags:

  • Breaks down in a reasonable amount of time, leaves behind no toxic residue, and safely becomes an additive to soil — compared with 50 or more years for normal plastic bags to break down into smaller pieces;
  • A better choice for rubbish, because normal plastic bags slow the natural process of the rubbish biodegrading;
  • The bags 'breathe', reducing the weight of the by-product up to 25% in 5 days. Ideal for collecting food waste for composting as they reduce smells, stop mould growth and the waste dries out making it easier to compost or worm.
  • Certified by the Australasian Bioplastics Association, AIB Vincotte (OK Compost), DIN Certco & BPI (USA)

Please remember, these bags still need to be responsibly disposed off in your rubbish.

Made of a material called Mater-Bi, which consists of corn starch, biodegradable and compostable polyester and vegetable oil.

Ingredients / Materials

Mater-Bi is a bioplastic made from PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate derived from coal), plant starch and additives.

    Great product

    Great alternative to nasty freezer bags. A little bigger than I had anticipated - one should read the dimensions more thoroughly. All in all, great product.

    hard to use.

    I was excited to use compostable freezer bags. First care needs to be taken ripping off a bag from the roll as they tear very easily. Once taken off the bags is stuck together and they need to be carefully opened before you can put anything in them. I will perservere and hopefully learn some tricks to working with them. It's nice to know the bags will eventually be soil in our garden instead of landfill.
