Solid concentrates
From shampoo to bathroom cleaning, environmentally friendly solid cleaning concentrates are making waves in Australia. According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, typical liquid cleaning products are made up of more than 90% water. Drying them out into a solid reduces their volume and weight, thus reducing the number of trucks, fuel and carbon emissions associated with shipping them. It also eliminates the need for plastic packaging, meaning less disposable plastic ends up in our landfills and environment. Packaged in cardboard, and completely plastic free, the little 25g solid cleaning concentrates from Ethique make 350ml of liquid cleaning product that will last up to 6 months. All you have to do is add water! [pswp_products ids="32091,32092"]Plastic free cleaning accessories
We love that there are so many completely plastic free cleaning brushes, sponges and accessories becoming available these days, and we anticipate this is a trend that is here to stay! At the end of their life these useful products can be composted or recycled, and kept out of landfills. The Quick-Loop Mop Head (left) is just one of those products. This plastic free mop head is designed to fit almost any threaded handle. The clever combination of a high tech formed steel spring and the low tech red oak dowel provides an easy to use and efficient cleaning tool. It takes just a second to replace the cloth and really shines when scrubbing and accessing hard to reach places. The Redecker Beechwood Toilet Brush With Stand (right) is another of our favourites, and the perfect addition to any sustainable bathroom. Made of oiled beechwood with light, strong bristles, the matching stand (also made of beech) can rest on the floor or be wall mounted. Its open construction aids the brush in drying out between uses. Unlike conventional toilet brushes, this entire product is biodegradable, except for a small piece of wire on the brush that can be removed with pliers and recycled. A product that enables you to simplify and declutter that cleaning cupboard, eliminate toxins from your home, and even save you money by helping you to reduce the amount of cleaning products you buy? Yes please! Any wonder this liquid castile soap is a trendy go to for so many! This amazingly versatile, environmentally friendly soap can be used to:- Make an all purpose spray (in a spray bottle, mix 1 tbs of castile soap with 1 cup of water)
- Make an all purpose scourer (combine 1 tbs of liquid castile soap with 1/3 cup of bi-carb)
- Make a glass and window cleaner (in a spray bottle, mix 1/2 tsp liquid castile soap, 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1 1/2 cups of water, and 25 drops of peppermint essential oil)
- Make hand or body wash (combine one part liquid castile soap with three parts water into a soap dispenser)
Compostable sponges
That's right, kitchen wipes, sponges and scrubbers that are made of natural fibres, and at the end of their life can be added to your compost heap where they will break down and return to the earth! Conventional kitchen wipes, like Chux, are made from viscose rayon fibres, and will disintegrate into smaller microplastics, but will never break down completely. Our Swedish cloth range are a great replacement for Chux style wipes and paper towels, and contain no plastic components or packaging. Their fun illustrations will add some life to your kitchen and cleaning cupboard too. For scrubbing, we can't go past Safix scrub pads which are made from coconut fibre - the perfect green cleaning accessory.
