Menstrual Cup FAQs
How do I work out what size menstrual cup to choose?
We're all different, so just because one brand or style works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for another. There are some things you can do to help narrow down the best size for you though.
1. Determine whether you have a light flow or heavy flow.
2. Cervix position. With a thoroughly washed finger you can try to reach your cervix during menstruation. It will feel like the end of your nose. Take note of what knuckle on your finger is closest to your vaginal opening. The closer that knuckle is to the tip of your finger, the shorter your cervix.
3. Age and pregnancy.
4. Activity level. If you play sport, a firmer cup might have a lower chance than leaking than a softer cup.

What is the difference between menstrual cup brands?
All of our menstrual cups are made from flexible, hypoallergenic, medical-grade silicone. Each brand offers a range of shapes and sizes to suit different bodies, and look and feel slightly different from each other in terms of firmness, smoothness, grips, and rim style.
JuJu menstrual cups are made in Australia, Lunette cups are made in Finland and OrganiCup are made in China.
How do you insert a menstrual cup?
1. Wash your hands. This is an essential step before inserting and removing your cup.
2. Relax. Stress can tighten your muscles and make the process of inserting a more difficult experience. So relax, you'll get the hang of it in no time.
3. Fold the cup. Below are some popular folds.
4. Get comfortable. Sit on the toilet, stand with a foot on the bathtub, squat or just stand normally.
5. Insert the cup. Insert the folded menstrual cup and once the entire cup is inside of you, remove your fingers and let it open up. Try a natural lubricant to help insert it if you need.
6. Rotate to seal it into place. Once the cup has been inserted, grip the base of the cup (not the stem), and turn it one complete rotation - 360 degrees. This will create a seal. If you're not sure you've created a seal, reach in and feel around the base of the cup – it should feel round or oval and not have any noticeable folds. The stem should be completely inside of you. We're all different though, so if the stem pokes out a little, trim it with with scissors (not while inserted!)
How do I remove a menstrual cup?
1. Wash your hands.
2. Relax. Removing your menstrual cup will be more difficult if you tense up.
3. Get comfortable. Lie down, squat, sit on the toilet or stand up. You could even do this in the shower, whatever works. With your forefinger and thumb, gently work your way up the stem until you can feel the base of the cup.
4. Pinch and pull. Pinch the base of the cup, not the stem, to release the suction and ease it out. Gently move the cup from side to side while pulling down.
5. Dispose of your flow in the toilet, wash the cup in warm water and reinsert.
Are menstrual cups comfortable? Can you feel them once they're in?
As long as you are using the right size cup for your body and it has been inserted correctly, your menstrual cup will be very comfortable and you shouldn't be able to feel that you're wearing one at all. Read more about Five Reasons to Consider Choosing a Menstrual Cup
Can a menstrual cup get stuck inside me?
It is possible for it to get stuck if it isn't the right size and sits too high in your vaginal canal, and while you might have a moment of panic, you will be fine and you will be able to remove it! Relax. If the cup has moved too far up for you to get a good grip on it, use your pelvic floor muscles to push down until you can grip it. Once you can feel the base, pinch the bottom of the cup until you feel the seal break.
Alternatively, wash your hands, get into a comfortable position and use two fingers to go searching for it. If you can't retrieve it yourself, you can always go to the doctor to have it removed. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. And remember, insertion and removal will get easier every time.
How often will I have to empty a menstrual cup?
That depends on the intensity of your flow. If you have an average to heavy flow, you should empty the cup every 3-10 hours. If you have a very low flow, you may go up to 12 hours. On heavier days you will have to empty your cup more often.
How long can I wear a menstrual cup? Can I sleep with it in?
Menstrual cups can be worn for up to 12 hours, which means they are safe to sleep in.
What is the best way to clean a menstrual cup?
During your period you should wash your cup with a water based soap and warm water at least twice a day. It is also recommended you sterilise your cup at the beginning and end of every cycle. To do this, bring a pot of water to the boil then place your cup in the water for about 5 minutes. Avoid letting the cup touch the base of the pan as it may melt. Air dry and put it away.
Will a menstrual cup leak?
If you're using the right size cup, have inserted it correctly, and are emptying it more frequently on heavier days, it shouldn't leak. However no cup will work 100% all of the time, so for extra peace of mind we recommend to use your cup in conjunction with a reusable liner or period proof underwear. If you exercise a lot, a firmer, more rigid cup might be a better option for you.
Is the menstrual cup linked to TSS?
While extremely rare, there is a risk of developing toxic shock syndrome from a menstrual cup. So it is important you follow proper cleaning and sanitising procedures, and do not leave your cup in for more than 12 hours.
Can I use a menstrual cup if I have an IUD?
There have been instances where an IUD has been was dislodged during cup removal, so we recommend you consult with your doctor before starting to use a menstrual cup with an IUD.
Reusable Pad FAQs
What is the difference between the reusable pads and liners that you sell?
Our reusable cloth pads are made from certified organic cotton that is chemical-free, unbleached, non-dyed, and unscented. Each brand has a range of sizes available, depending on your flow.
Both Juju and Hannahpad range have fasteners to secure the pad to your underwear.
What is the best way to clean reusable pads and liners?
It is recommended that you rinse and wash within 12hrs after use. Use a gentle, natural laundry detergent, like soapberries, or some oxygen bleach to help with stains. After a change, fold the pad and pop it in a wet bag or zipper bag till you can deal with it when you get home. You do not have to wash or rinse the pads immediately after changing.

What is period-proof underwear?
