How to Make Your Own DIY Vapour Rub

Ingredients

Regular version For babies and small children

Method

  1. In a mason jar or glass jug, add the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil. Place jar or jug into a saucepan filled with 6cm of water. Melt the ingredients over medium heat.
  2. Once melted, remove from heat and add the essential oils (see regular blend for adults and the other blend for babies and young children). Stir to combine.
  3. Pour mixture into your chosen jar or container. Seal tight and store in a cool dry area out of sunlight.

How to Use

Apply as needed onto the chest and back to help reduce and relieve congestion and coughing.

For babies, children or those with sensitive skin, perform a patch test first. For a baby, test a small amount on their leg or arm, wait approximately 24 hours and if there is no reaction, continue use as normal.

If a reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately (a reaction would likely cause redness, inflammation, or be painful to the touch). Gently wash the area with warm water and soft cloth.

Note: Some essential oils are not considered safe for babies, small children and pregnant women. The essential oils used in this recipe are classed as being generally safe for adults and babies. If you are pregnant, omit as per the regular version of the recipe. Only use essential oils in their pure form and unadulterated. Always use essential oils in moderation. Never use directly onto skin, dilute first. Never use internally. If in any doubt, check with a doctor or healthcare professional before using any of these essential oils if you are pregnant or on babies and young children.

Biome cannot issue a refund if the DIY skin care product, DIY hair care product or DIY body care product you make using our raw DIY ingredients do not perform as you'd hoped. We will, however, offer a refund if the raw DIY ingredient packaging is broken or leaking, or the ingredient itself appears to be ‘off'.

Before using any raw DIY ingredient for the first time, please first research that ingredient's potential benefits as well as safety precautions and possible side effects. Check with your medical professional if you have any concerns.

If you have severe acne, very sensitive skin, or another skin concern or health condition, we recommend seeking medical advice before using any new product on your skin, whether that be a raw ingredient, a DIY product you've made yourself, or commercially formulated product.

Please exercise caution when using essential oils. If you are pregnant or have any kind of health or skin condition, we recommend you speak to your doctor before use. Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids, so use in moderation. Pure essential oils should never be used directly on the skin and should never be ingested. When using an essential oil for the first time, do a skin patch test. Each essential oil is unique and may not be suited to everyone. Please research potential benefits as well as safety precautions before using any essential oil. Some essential oils may interfere with medication.
