Hiking clothes are as important to a hiker as a space suit is to an astronaut. Well... almost. However, anyone who has ever walked home from the beach in wet togs can tell you how important it is to have the right clothing for your expedition.

The majority of our range is unisex, so no matter if you are looking for hiking clothes for women or men, we should have something suitable.

Waterproofing

This is the most common & uncomfortable challenge faced by hikers. It is important, especially in colder climates, to stay dry during your hike. Getting wet can rapidly increase the rate at which you lose body heat, and makes it nearly impossible to get warm again.

When choosing your walking clothes, it will serve you well to consider waterproofing. At Biome, we stock Amble jackets. These jackets are high quality, made of sustainable materials and, best of all, waterproof! They will keep your core warm and dry during your walk or hike.

Breathability

Breathability is another vital factor to consider when putting together your hiking outfit. Just like in the previous section, wet clothes are not your friend. Proper hiking clothes will allow sweat and moisture to evaporate from your body. This is our bodies natural air conditioning, and unbreathable clothes will prevent your sweat from cooling you properly. Our range of Mongrel socks are made from sustainably and ethically farmed Merino wool, and are quick to dry, antibacterial, antimicrobial and itch free.

Flexibility

The final tenet of good quality hiking clothes is flexibility. You need to be able to stretch your legs, take steps of varying lengths, and adjust to uneven ground on the fly. Anybody who has hiked in a tight pair of jeans knows just how restrictive and uncomfortable it is. For flexibility, we recommend a pair of linen shorts, like those from Komodo. They are roomy, lightweight and great for hikers. Additionally, a pair of leggings (such as those from Amble) also provide the flexibility required with the added benefit of protecting your legs from scratches.
