Helping Kids Discover Bugs!

Why you should let kids play with bugs

Insects are often seen as creepy, crawly, and gross, but they are also fascinating, diverse, and important for the environment. Letting kids get closer to (non-harmful!) insects can assist their development, curiosity, and empathy. Here are some reasons why encouraging your children to explore the world of insects can be beneficial for them.

Spark an interest in science and nature

Observing insects can spark an interest in science and nature. Insects are everywhere, and they have amazing adaptations, behaviours, and roles in the ecosystem. By observing and interacting with insects, kids can learn about biology, ecology, and evolution. They can also develop research skills, as well as observation, classification, and experimentation skills.

Foster wonder and creativity

There are more than a million species of insects, each with its own unique shape, colour, and pattern. They have incredible diversity and beauty. By discovering and appreciating the variety of insects, kids can expand their imagination and appreciation for the natural world.

Promote respect for living things

Learning about insects promotes a positive attitude and respect for living things. Insects are essential for the survival of many plants and animals and by learning about insects, kids learn to value and protect all forms of life. They can also develop empathy and compassion for other creatures that share the planet with them.

Toys and books for insect loving kids

Help kids develop their fascination with insects by getting outdoors, allowing them to observe bugs in their natural habitat. Introduce them to bug books and insect videos, and allow kids to use their imagination with insect themed toys.

Tender Leaf Toys Bug Hotel

Featuring 13 common garden bugs, illustrated on plywood and housed in their very own bug hotel, the Tender Leaf Toys Bug Hotel is perfect for little ones that love nature and all things insects.

Tender Leaf Toys create all sorts of engaging wooden toys that are perfet for little hands (the Greenhouse with Garden Set is another set your nature loving child might like). Their toys are made using reclaimed rubberwood, a by-product of the latex industry. Plus, for every reclaimed tree they use, they plant a new one, driving ahead the cycle of regeneration.

Tender Leaf Toys are special because every single stage of production happens in the same family-run factory. Once each toy has been hand-painted, assembled and checked, it is wrapped in paper and packaged in recycled cardboard.

Why Kids Should Play With Bugs

Have fun, but be careful!

Observing insects can be a fun and educational activity for kids of all ages. However, it is of course important to supervise them safely!

Some insects can bite, sting, or carry diseases, so it is important to avoid touching or disturbing them without proper guidance.

It is also important to respect the insects' habitats and needs, and not to harm or collect them.

Enjoy the wonderful world of insects together.
