Going camping? One of the first things to think about is your camping lighting plans. A good camping light, whether it is a string light, a solar light, a lantern or a combination of all, is an absolute necessity.

If you do not have lights for camping, you will quickly find out how hard it is to do things in the dark. Out in nature, there is rarely ambient light pollution from buildings, street lights or cars. Hence, once the sun sets, it gets very dark, very quickly.

Never fear! This issue can be solved by simply taking a good camping light setup with you. The ideal lights will depend on the type of trip you are going on.

Hiking & Backpack Camping

For this kind of camping, you ideally want a lightweight, compact solution. Luckily for you, we only stock LED camping lights. LEDs are more power efficient, lightweight and brighter (for the same size) than traditional bulbs, making them the perfect camping light. Our recommendation for overnight hikers is a Biolite setup. Simply fix the solar panel to the outside of your pack to let it charge during the day. Then, come nightfall, plug in your Sitelight String for power efficient lighting that can cover a wide area.

Large Setup Camping

Think of a typical family camping trip. The car is loaded to the brim with tents, gazebos, cooking equipment and firewood. You are planning on camping for a week, maybe longer, and need enough light for the whole gang to be able to cook, read a book and play some cards all at the same time. In this scenario, you really can't have enough camping lights. A great place to start is with a Biolite AlpenGlow camping lantern. These can act as the main light source at your site.
