In 1994 after a chance encounter with a merino sheep farmer, the then 24 year old founder Jeremy Moon became hooked on the possibilities of natural solutions to technical apparel. His first experience with a superfine merino wool t-shirt catalysed a big idea with global potential. Wearing the shirt truly ignited a love affair, it was beautifully soft, never overheated, didn’t hold odour - even after days of use - and could be thrown in the washing machine and, unlike other outdoor gear, it was totally natural. Jeremy re-mortgaged his house and the rest is history. The opportunity had emerged to disrupt the outdoor industry from unsustainable petrochemicals to more sustainable, nature-based solution. 'icebreaker' means ice-breaking. On one level it means staying warm, but the underlying meaning is about breaking the ice - new ideas and new relationships – between people and nature, and between natural fibres and your body. They are committed to a business based on high performance nature based fabrics, and the supply chain is built on the foundations of transparency and traceability. icebreaker offer fantastically natural alternatives to synthetic outdoor apparel, with next to skin, top to toe solutions.
