In 1994 after a chance encounter with a merino sheep farmer, the then 24 year old founder Jeremy Moon became hooked on the possibilities of natural solutions to technical apparel. His first experience with a superfine merino wool t-shirt catalysed a big idea with global potential. Wearing the shirt truly ignited a love affair, it was beautifully soft, never overheated, didn’t hold odour - even after days of use - and could be thrown in the washing machine and, unlike other outdoor gear, it was totally natural. Jeremy re-mortgaged his house and the rest is history. The opportunity had emerged to disrupt the outdoor industry from unsustainable petrochemicals to more sustainable, nature-based solution. 'icebreaker' means ice-breaking.
