the brand story:

Quillan is a Slow Fashion label created by South African born and raised designer Kimelyn. Created out of the desire for a unique range of clothing, Quillan was designed for the independent woman who feels strongly about holding true to her value systems. She is conscious about making choices that impact our Earth and its people in a positive way. She is also passionate about expressing her unique and authentic self through her choice of clothing.

With these ideals in mind, the Quillan label has been designed to be distinctive, timeless and trans-seasonal, incorporating the brand cornerstones of comfort and quality.

"We consider our impact with every decision we make, from how the people who make our clothes are treated to our choice of materials used in production, through to our packaging and labeling. We are not perfect and we are aware that there are gaps we still need to fill, but we are moving in the right direction and ensuring that every decision we make counts towards being as ethical and sustainable as possible.

We want to reduce our negative impact on our planet and the beautiful creatures that inhabit it, so we choose our fabrics consciously, focusing on sustainable natural and organic fibres - hemp, organic cotton and linen - so much healthier for us, for the environment and for the workers in the industry."  - Designer & Founder Kimelyn

who made my clothes?

"Our sampling and production is done by a small factory in South Africa with whom I have been working with for several years. I have spent many hours on the factory floor (often with my young children with me) and I've been able to get to know many of the employees. They have a very low staff turnover rate and they are a close-knit team.

The company working hours are 40 hours a week, with breaks for tea and lunch, 5 days a week with the option to work overtime at 150% the standard hourly rate. All the employees receive a fair wage, annual leave, and accrued sick and compassionate leave. Production runs are small and fabric waste is minimized. We are working on how to better use our off cuts." - Designer & Founder Kimelyn
