the brand story:

Liesl earned a degree in fashion design from FIT in New York and worked as a designer for large companies like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger before starting Oliver + S, her original brand in 2008. Since then Liesl has launched a few other pattern brands, including Straight Stitch Society for accessory patterns that are fun, quick, and easy to sew, and Liesl + Co. patterns for women’s clothing that feature all the details you expect from the very best independent patterns.

She says she used to design clothing for global fashion brands, and loved her job. Then her daughter, S, was born, and she inspired her to start designing and sewing clothing for children. One thing led to another, and she found that she had a new job as a pattern designer.

"At the end of the day, I want to be known for helping people realize their creative potential and build lasting memories, one sewing project at a time. I believe that anyone can learn to sew and can make beautiful things, especially if I do my job well and give you great, easy-to-understand instructions. Our patterns are often described as a "sewing class in an envelope," and here at Liesl + Co. we take that reputation seriously." -  Liesl Gibson.

you are making a difference:

  • Save waste and money by learning how to sew your own clothes.
  • Connect with artisanal practices and craft skills.
  • Accessible; detailed guides for expanding your knowledge at all sewing abilities.
  • Helps you choose local and hand made over mass manufacturing.
  • To minimise waste, every pattern is suitable for many sizes.
  • The envelopes are a heavy card-stock that allows them to be reused for storing the cut pattern pieces.
  • Among the highest quality patterns on the market today; both in terms of the physical package and the quality of the pattern-drafting, grading and sewing instructions.

  • Each patterns calls on a unique set of sewing skills. Haven't ever done one of these things before? Don't worry. You'll be walked you through it, step by step.
  • Suitable for light- to medium-weight woven fabrics like quilting cotton, voile, lawn, shirting, poplin, broadcloth, and linen. You can also use knits for the main fabrics, but we recommend lightweight woven fabrics for the bodysuit placket and bias binding and for the jacket bias binding.
  • Difficulty: 2/4
  • After successfully sewing this pattern, you will have developed the following skills: bias binding, darts, partial placket, pleats, curved seams.
  • The bodysuit and shirt can be made with short or long sleeves and include a snap placket and pleats at the front and back.
  • The bodysuit has elasticized leg openings and a snap placket for easy changes.
  • The elasticized pull-on pants have a roomy fit and are quick to sew.
  • The reversible jacket features raglan sleeves and a snap closure.
  • Patterns are in English inches and Yard systems.
  • Heavier weight white paper stock that makes the pattern pieces easier to work with.
