Brand story

A Lunette menstrual cup is a convenient, ecological and economical way to deal with periods.

Many years ago, before menstrual cups were well known and Biome was one of the first stores in Australia to be stocking them, Biome team member Maddy shared thoughts and tips on her favourite Biome product - the Lunette menstrual cup.

The Lunette is essentially a reusable silicone cup that replaces throw away feminine hygiene products like tampons and pads. It comes with a little pouch for its safe keeping, which means you can keep it in your bag so you'll always have it with you in case of surprise visits. What Maddy loves most is that you can keep it in for 12 hours. That means you can sleep with it all night worry free!

Environmentally, you are saving the planet by reducing the common disposable feminine products that end up in landfill and in our water ways. Every year more than 660 million end up in landfill in Australia alone! It is ethically sourced silicone that is toxin free, waste free, and vegan.   If you leave aside the environmental impact, economically you won't be sorry either. If you add up the cost of all the disposable feminine hygiene products you would buy a month, it doesn't even compare to the cost of the cup. Maddy's wallet is very happy! Maddy loves that a menstrual cup makes her life so much easier. She never has to worry about running out of products or getting stuck somewhere that doesn't sell disposable versions. In that sense it's amazing for travel too.

The beauty of the Lunette is that because each cup lasts up to 10 years, so you will rarely have buy another one! Saving money and the environment in one go - what more could you want?

Maddy's tip for those looking to try it for the first time is to give yourself a couple of cycles to get used to it. Like anything it takes some getting used to and some practice. There is so much information online now about menstrual cups, that if you have some questions or are on the fence definitely do some research. It's just about finding what works for you. Maddy suggests to start by inserting it and taking it out in the shower until you get used to the motion, and to remember to pinch the bottom of the cup before taking it out to release the seal.

    Getting used to it

I have used this once-it was a bit messy BUT I know they take some getting used to. I will persevere as it did completely protect me from any leaks and the only issue was me taking it out and not being completely prepared. Feels so good knowing I'm not using tampons too.

After >3 years of use, I love more and more my lunette!

It did take me a couple of months to learn own technique and get used to emptying and cleaning my cup perfectly but efficiently, but the little effort is definitely worth it! I know mix it with my Modibodi when on heavy days and have no worries ever.

I will never go back to single-use stuff that ends up in landfill, specially nasty tampons.

    LIFE CHANGING!

I hated using conventional female hygiene products like pads and tampons, and this cup has been the solution. I have had no issues at all since purchase. The cup is super simple to use and it is comfortable to wear. I can do all of my usual activities including exercise without being uncomfortable and without having to worry about leaking. I am 26, sexually active with no children and Size 1 seems to be the correct size for me. Would highly recommend to all of my lady friends!

    Very Good

It is much better than pads and tampons, and is zero waste at the same time. It takes a little while to get used to, but after that it works really well. I would recommend it highly :)

    Give it a go

This was the first time I've ever used a menstrual cup and I admit I didn't think I'd like it. Now that I've used it I think it's great! Wouldn't recommend it to anyone with queazy tummy however. Although I find it much more comfortable than tampons, when it comes to emptying the cup I'm still a little weirded out. I'm sure I'll get used to it and I keep thinks Ng of the amount of tampons I'll be keeping out of landfills!
