Lunette Menstrual Cup

A Lunette menstrual cup is a convenient, ecological and economical way to deal with periods.

Many years ago, before menstrual cups were well known and Biome was one of the first stores in Australia to be stocking them, Biome team member Maddy shared thoughts and tips on her favourite Biome product - the Lunette menstrual cup.

The Lunette is essentially a reusable silicone cup that replaces throw away feminine hygiene products like tampons and pads. It comes with a little pouch for its safe keeping, which means you can keep it in your bag so you'll always have it with you in case of surprise visits. What Maddy loves most is that you can keep it in for 12 hours. That means you can sleep with it all night worry free!

Environmentally, you are saving the planet by reducing the common disposable feminine products that end up in landfill and in our water ways. Every year more than 660 million end up in landfill in Australia alone! It is ethically sourced silicone that is toxin free, waste free, and vegan.   If you leave aside the environmental impact, economically you won't be sorry either. If you add up the cost of all the disposable feminine hygiene products you would buy a month, it doesn't even compare to the cost of the cup. Maddy's wallet is very happy! Maddy loves that a menstrual cup makes her life so much easier. She never has to worry about running out of products or getting stuck somewhere that doesn't sell disposable versions. In that sense it's amazing for travel too.

The beauty of the Lunette is that because each cup lasts up to 10 years, so you will rarely have buy another one! Saving money and the environment in one go - what more could you want?

Maddy's tip for those looking to try it for the first time is to give yourself a couple of cycles to get used to it. Like anything it takes some getting used to and some practice. There is so much information online now about menstrual cups, that if you have some questions or are on the fence definitely do some research. It's just about finding what works for you. Maddy suggests to start by inserting it and taking it out in the shower until you get used to the motion, and to remember to pinch the bottom of the cup before taking it out to release the seal.
