Interview with Biome

Interview with Biome

There are eco-friendly and organic alternatives for many of the products we buy and use on a daily basis, but it isn’t always easy to come across them. Biome Eco Stores’ mission is to present us with the opportunity to help make the world a better place with their one-stop-shop for all things nature-friendly. From healthy foods to reusable storage items and eco fashion – Biome Eco Stores truly has it all to make our lives greener and cleaner. What’s more, the store presents shoppers with tons of advice and tips on how to make your life more harmonious with nature and more pleasant overall. For the deal lovers among us there are various ways to strike a bargain while helping the environment by shopping green products at Biome Eco Stores. Shionagh from Biome Eco Stores fills us in on all the details about shopping eco products and his store.

What inspired your company’s founders to start Biome Eco Stores?

Biome was founded by Tracey Bailey as a small family business. After working in corporate communications and starting a family, she made the choice to be part of the solution to our planet’s future.

Beginning in 2003 as an online shop, we grew into a physical store in Paddington (Brisbane) in June 2005, then opened our second store in the Brisbane CBD in September 2007. In 2013 we set up a central home for our team and showroom in Douglas Street, Milton. We have recently expanded again with a new shop in Indooroopilly shopping center in Brisbane.

What are some of the hottest back to school items?

  • Bento-style PlanetBox: A stainless steel lunch box that helps you replace single-use plastic and paper. A PlanetBox lunch box guides you in packing a well-balanced, litterless lunch.>/li>
  • SoYoung insulated lunch bags: A PVC free and phthalate insulated lunch box is hard to find in Australia… until now. SoYoung lunch boxes are made of coated linen fabric featuring retro-inspired designs.

Which eco-friendly items should be in each and everyone’s kitchen?

Anything that helps reduce plastic waste. We suggest the following:

4MyEarth Bread Bag
Honeybee Beeswax Wraps
Stainless Steel Ice Cube Tray

Which organic foods are often being undervalued or missed out on?

It’s almost impossible to find coconut milk that has a can with a BPA free lining. We stock one that is not only organic; it also has a rich creamy flavour that is lighter than coconut cream with a lower fat content, without thickeners, stabilisers or additives unlike most coconut milks.

Why should we shop at Biome Eco Stores and not another eco-friendly (online) store?

The Biome team has done the research for you to ensure that the choices we offer live up to the eco claims they make. We require full disclosure of ingredients for all products so that our customers can make informed decisions on the products they buy. Our main aim is to offer products that are good for the individual as well as the planet. We simply don’t stock anything that is not sustainable, non-toxic or harmful to our precious environment.

How can eco shoppers save on their purchases at Biome Eco Stores?

Every time you shop at Biome, as long as you sign in or create an account, you earn reward points to the value of 5% discount that you are able to use on your next order.

Which tips do you have for people shopping eco items for the first time ever?

Living more sustainably starts with just a few earth-conscious choices each day. You will be surprised how you gain confidence and the snowball builds momentum. Our site offers some easy actions to incorporate into your daily routine.

How many of the items available in your store are Australian made?

At Biome, we believe in supporting local eco businesses wherever possible, before sourcing from overseas. We are fortunate enough to stock many Australian brands who make most (if not all) of their products right here in our lucky country. You can view a full list on our website here.

What is it like to work at Biome Eco Stores?

Our team members have multiple different talents and keep the love for our planet close to their hearts while working to aid you in making eco-friendly choices.

Our thanks go to Biome Eco Stores for doing this interview with us.
