Each bee house is the same size as shown but may look different.

This year, we are very grateful to have our bee houses made by our local Indooroopilly Men's Shed from reused pallet boxes and weed bamboo cleared from around Brisbane.  Read more about the Men's Shed association below.

Australian native bees play an important role as key pollinators of native species. Native bees are more fragile than the introduced European honey bee and have suffered greatly from urban deofrestation.  But now, the Biome Bee House is here to help.

The card accompanying the bee house, features native bee illustrations by Brisbane artist Ingrid Bartkowiak.

Native bees and wasps are the mystery helpers in our garden, most are solitary and with its many hollows and tiny nooks, this bee house is perfect for raising their young.

Where to put your bee house?

Position your Biome Native Bee House (or Wild Bee Hotel) in a sheltered spot out of the hot midday sun (but still able to get morning sun) and also out of harsh rain or winds.  Hang under an eave or under a tree. Native bees are cold blooded and need the heat of the sun in the morning to warm up.  Face the bee house towards the morning sun. Keep other vegetation away from the entrances.  Native bees need a stable, safe environment and prefer not to compete with ants.

Looks great

Love this little bee house, looks great up in our tree. I can't say it has actually attracted any bees however it has definitely made a home for someone, maybe a little spider
