What our customers say

"Tracey is a LEGEND and her stores are a delight for all eco shoppers." Manda Epton, Maud N Lil Organic Cotton

"Yesterday I went into the Brisbane store and was greeted by a very lovely lady named Tiffany. I went in to purchase some makeup. Tiffany was so helpful. She suggested the brand that would suit my preferences (Adorn), helped with colour selection and ensured I had wipes to remove the makeup after using the testers. She wasn’t pushy and knew what she was talking about. I am wearing the makeup today and I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you to Tiffany for such lovely customer service. She was friendly, polite, helpful and her energy tells me she is a kind and caring person. I love Biome!"

"I initially sent an email enquiry to Biome and received a prompt reply that answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. I received my package within a week of ordering and all goods were packaged with care, and arrived in excellent condition. I fully intend to order more products from Biome, and I'll be advising my friends of this excellent business." Kat from NSW

We had a lovely response from a corporate customer recently who was looking for 25 books on "Green Practices" to give as gifts to some sustainability managers she was training. We sourced the books in the price range she required and shipped them within her deadline of just 3 days. Her response to us was "who says customer service is dead?" Apparently it's alive and well here at Biome.

"I just wanted to say thank you very much to all the team at Biome! I came across your online store not too long ago and have since made many purchases. I can't get enough of your great products and fantastic specials. You are also so quick at getting my order packed and delivered. The website is wonderful, it looks great and is so easy to navigate!
Keep up the good work and look forward to more satisfaction as one of your customers!" Jessica from Victoria

"I want to say that since purchasing the water purifier it's possibly the best purchase ever. Your product is AMAZING both in terms of taste, quality and design. Drinking quality water is SO important and this is second to none in my opinion. I will be telling as many people as possible about what a great product you have made and willing them to purchase one for each household and business I can. The price is extremely reasonable and the savings are huge now bottled water isn't needed. Thank you so much for creating such a quality and wonderful product."
Simon (A completely satisfied customer)

"I first used Biome when I lived in Brisbane, and still do now that I've relocated to Melbourne as luckily for me, their excellent service extends to delivering to VIC!! Yay! I love Biome because they have a great range of eco-friendly products, ranging from household cleaning, to drink bottles, to quirky gift ideas for that something a bit different. Their product knowledge is fabulous and no question is too silly. Their prices are reasonable, as eco-friendly products tend to have a slightly higher price tag but I think they offer value within that landscape. A bit of a go-to shop for me, and would thoroughly recommend Biome to anyone." Naotodd in Canterbury

"My experience with Biome was very good. I bought SIGG water bottles from the online store. I thought the range for these products was very good as I was looking for particular designs/sizes and most physical stores I've been to don't have very many. The website was well designed and my items shipped very quickly. I also liked how they are responsible in packaging items in reused materials." Tash from Valentine

"Used this company because of their commitment to environmental issues and range of environmentally conscious products. They provided a fabulous service, great range of products, and was promptly delivered in minimal packaging. Would use again for sure!" Blueblue from Orange

"Great products at a reasonable price. Ecologically and fair trade sound. Biome has taken selling to a finer level. I'm very happy with my purchases and happy to recommend a company with great ethics as well as fantastic products!"
Leanne from Goosberry Hill

"I trust Biome to only stock the best natural products with no nasties. The site is easy to navigate and orders are sent promptly. I've been purchasing from Biome for over a year with no problems whatsoever." Thalian from Newtown

"Ordered a couple of Kleen Kanteen water bottles through Biome, they arrived within a couple of days, packaged really well with useful info. Have always been really impressed with the service provided from Biome and the quality of the products they stock." Dee from Ashfield

"Great range of products, easy to navigate website, good specials and very speedy delivery. Particularly liked the personalised note!" Anna from Hamilton

"Before making my online purchase, I was able to phone and get valuable advice about the product I was buying. Products arrived soon after. I have always been very happy dealing with this eco conscious business." Kim from Indooroopilly

"Great website, really fast service. I loved how my parcel was packed with care, most things were individually wrapped. It has wonderful "green gift ideas." Delm from Como

"Great items in store (we bought Sigg water bottles) and the order we placed on the internet was delivered next day in Brisbane area!! TOP-shop, I highly recommend Biome." Andrea from Shailer Park

A few people have asked where I have sourced the lunchbox and things I’ve been using for the girls, and here they are! I’ve debated getting a new, bigger SoYoung backpack (2), but I can’t imagine she’ll need much bigger than this one this year, so we’ll continue with the toddler size. It has been used regularly for two years now (both girls have one) and they show no signs of slowing down. The backpacks are waterproof, made responsibly, and free from plasticky nasties. Product Review - Ceramic water purifier
October 2012 | A Splash of Vanilla | www.asplashofvanilla.com

Due to our drinking water being, ahem, less than desirable regarding certain additives, impurities and such, I’ve been on the lookout for a water filter for some time. I drink a lot of water as I believe it’s important to health and wellbeing but I’m not terribly keen knowing I’m also taking in some additio nal properties – for me, it’s not just about the actual intake of impurities but also the fact that someone else is controlling what goes into public drinking water, if that makes any sense. But don’t mind me, I grew up a hippie kid so I’m always questioning authority in some way! Read more...

Green success - eco friendly from top to bottom (pdf)
May/June 2012 | ARA Retailer

For a growing number of retailers and entrepreneurs, ethics and business go hand in hand. A strong, passionate philosophical standpoint is the cornerstone of the business and its presence is felt in every transaction.

Tracey Bailey, founder of Brisbane-based business Biome, is one such entrepreneur. With a lifelong passion for environmental awareness and eco friendly philosophies underpinning every business decision, Tracey has not only grown the business to the multichannel operation it is today - she has created a following of employees, customers and fans who live by the same values and beliefs.

The Biome business has come a long way since it began in 2003 as an online eco store. It now has two stores in Brisbane and stocks a complete range of products, all of which have to meet a stringent set of environmentally friendly criteria to even be stocked.

They are particularly in tune with the wants and needs of everyday households. Of course we want the lovely smelling, nicely packaged gear, and this site shows you can have just this in products that are goos for us and less impacting on the environment. As they say, it’s the simple, everyday choices that have the power to transform our world. They also have eco stores in Brisbane City and Paddington.

Earth is for life not just for Christmas

Earth is for life not just for Christmas
December 17-23, 2008 | Brisbane News

Just because you want to help the planet doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the festive season. Lucy Brook highlights a few environmentally sound ideas.

The season of twinkling lights is upon us, but all that shimmering can expend huge amounts of energy. Switching to light emitting diodes – or LEDs- will save you money in the long run, says Tracey Bailey, owner of the Biome Eco stores in Paddington and Brisbane City. “LED lights are slightly more expensive than standard tree lights but use less electricity so cost less to run.”

Tracey says LEDs, available at department stores, also generate less heat so reduce fire risk, have a longer lifespan than regular bulbs and don’t contain mercury.

Candles for tables create ambience and an environmentally friendly glimmer – try Australian made and owned Queen B
Beeswax candles
($8.50 each, from Biome, www.biome.com.au) which are free of petroleum products.

And don’t forget to turn off Christmas lights overnight – the big man will still find you.

Catering for rellies often means using plastic plates, cups and cutlery – a notion that makes environmentalists squirm.

“Disposable plastic plates and cups are made from petrochemicals, creating pollution in their production and when thrown out they sit in landfill forever,” says Tracey Bailey from Biome. The solution? Either some serious washing up, or stylish, earth-friendly alternatives. Try the Palm Leaf Plates from Biome ($14.95 for 25), which can be cut up and used on your garden as mulch.

Forget decking the halls with boughs of holly.

The Staple-less Stapler ($11.95) is a handy little gadget that joins pieces of paper without using metal staples. Just pop your sheets into the slot, press down and be amazed by the mysterious origami that happens inside this innovative device. Admittedly, it can take a maximum of four regular sheets of paper, so it’s not much use for anyone binding a thesis. However it’s fine for shorter assignments and ideal for shopkeepers who need to staple receipts together. www.biome.com.au

Firmly commited to eco principles, Brisbane’s Biome is a chic retail outlet with a conscience.

Tucked in among the hustle and bustle of Adelaide Street in Brisbane’s CBD is a breath of fresh air – Australia’s greenest retail outlet, Biome. Step inside and say hello to the latest in eco-conscious style. We love the swish fabric panels in the window, sleek floor and chic fit-out – all environmentally friendly. The store is bursting with integrity, from the use of hemp fabrics and a poured recycled resin floor to a vintage WWII mess table. That’s before we start on the delightful wares for sale, such as hardy palm leaf plates that can be composted when you’re finished and cute-as-
a-button organic baby products.

Biome is the love child of Tracey Bailey, a mum and ex-corporate communications consultant, who “just wanted to do her bit”. Tracey has certainly done that and, amazingly, manages to do even more. “We have a little competition here to see how little we can send to landfill,” she says with a smile. “Our ultimate aim is for an empty wheelie bin.”
