12 Good Deeds

The USC's Detection Dogs for Conservation program rescues dogs who are otherwise unable to be adopted due to behaviour issues. They are then trained to assist in detecting rare, endangered, and injured animals, such as koalas, quolls and masked owls. The Detection Dog team helps to locate injured, malnourished or isolated wildlife after severe natural disasters, such as the 2019/20 Australian bushfires, and also continue monitoring their safety as the areas recover.

Weave is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a way up and a way forward for children, young people, women, families and communities facing complex social situations. Their diverse range of programs have been designed to help tackle issues related to poverty, drugs, alcohol and mental health, homelessness, domestic violence, family breakdown and isolation.

HalfCut is a peer to peer, social and environmental movement that aims to protect crucial forests for habitat for threatened and endangered species, protect Traditional Owners land titles, start mass tree planting projects and ultimately be part of the solution to the growing climate emergency, ensuring a safe future for all species on Earth.

One Eighty is youth mental health done differently, run by young people, for young people. Their mission is to lead the way for peer-to-peer models of community support, raise the profile of exceptional existing services, and reimagine what youth engagement in the NFP sector looks like. One Eighty is focused on local impact through a grass roots, bottom up approach focusing on prevention and early intervention through their flagship programs.

The Aftershock aims to advance the scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of high mortality rate cancers - those that are less commonly diagnosed resulting in a lack of research and low improvement on five-year survival rates over the last 30 years. They focus on: non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leukaemia, mesothelioma, myeloma, kidney, bladder, stomach, brain, liver, oesophageal, pancreatic, endometrial/uterine, thyroid, gallbladder, small intestine, and bone cancer.

Mahboba's Promise is an Australian non-profit organisation founded by Mahboba Rawi, an Afghan refugee and now an Australian citizen, who has experienced first-hand the effects of a country torn apart by years of war and civil unrest. With Mahboba's intimate knowledge of Afghanistan, Mahboba's Promise is dedicated to helping disadvantaged women and children in Afghanistan, establishing schools, shelters and health clinics across the country, and sponsoring widows and orphans in need.

Pride Foundation Australia is a national philanthropic foundation specifically focused on funding lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual and other (LGBTQIA+) community issues in Australia. The Foundation actively works to increase philanthropic support for the Australian LGBTQIA+ and allied communities through fundraising, grant giving, collaboration and commissioning projects, and has a dedicated focus on advancing equity for the most disadvantaged LGBTQIA+ Australians, including advocating for systemic change and LGBTQIA creative arts.

Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation is an Indigenous led network that aims to re-invigorate the use of cultural burning by facilitating cultural learning pathways to fire and land management. Their mission is to empower Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities to work together towards healthy, functional and resilient landscapes. Firesticks is an opportunity for people to build on the knowledge they already have on Country and look for ways to make use of new technologies and understandings as a way to support cultural identity and practice.

Every day, countless people are sold into slavery, as slave owners make a profit off their misery. IJM is a global organisation with a plan to eliminate the slave trade everywhere. They work in 33 communities in 23 countries around the world to free people trapped in slavery, as well as protecting the poor against violence, like sex trafficking, the online sexual exploitation of children, violence against women and children, police brutality and more.

WA Wildlife is WA's first wildlife veterinary hospital. They also offer a range of wildlife services to the community including education, training, research, conservation and a rescue service. Annually, they care for over 4000 injured, sick and orphaned wildlife with a group of more than 250 dedicated volunteers, operating seven days a week. WA Wildlife rely heavily on donations from the public to sustain the endless food, medical, housing and cleaning bills.

Australia for UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency's national partner in Australia, raising awareness and funds to support UNHCR's global emergency response to humanitarian crises. Contributions lead to direct impact on the ground during humanitarian crises, helping UNHCR deliver emergency support such as shelter, protection, clean water, food and medicines to those in need. They also directly fund projects that support longer-term care such as building schools, running livelihood programs and providing healthcare.

Nestled in the Macedon Ranges, Edgar's Mission is a not for profit sanctuary for rescued farmed animals that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans. They rescue and provide sanctuary to animals in need, currently providing lifelong love and care to over 400 rescued animals. Through education, outreach, advocacy, community enrichment and farm tours, they encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.
