Shampoo bars – traditional soap based

Shampoo bars: made from saponified oils, contain close to nature ingredients, don’t require conditioner but you may benefit from an apple cider vinegar rinse, may take time for your hair to adjust. Choose a shampoo bar if you want to reduce waste and use ingredients that are as close to nature as possible.

    Advantages

The traditional, soap based shampoo bars are made from the most close to nature ingredients of all shampoos we offer. They help you eliminate synthetic ingredients from your hair care routine, and overtime allow your hair to return to a natural, balanced state.

It may take a few washes for your hair to become accustomed to a traditional shampoo bar. At first your hair may feel a bit oily, but persevere as it will feel much better over time as your hair detoxes. Many actually find they can go a longer period without washing their hair after transitioning to a shampoo bar.

    Main ingredients

Shampoo bars are made from saponified oils like olive, coconut, hemp and jojoba, and many also contain essential oils, clays, butters, herbs and flowers for added benefit.

    Conditioner

Traditional shampoo bars gently yet thoroughly cleanse hair and scalp and return it to a balanced state. You don’t need to follow up with a traditional conditioner. Many do however benefit from an apple cider vinegar rinse, which leaves hair incredibly soft and manageable. To make an apple cider vinegar rinse, mix 100ml apple cider vinegar with 400ml warm water in a jug. Pour over hair and then rinse thoroughly with water.

    Solid shampoo – detergent/surfactant based

Solid shampoo: contain detergents or surfactants, are essentially a solidified liquid shampoo, require conditioner. Choose a solid shampoo and conditioner if you want a low waste version of liquid shampoo and conditioner.

    Advantages

If you tried the above traditional shampoo bars but didn’t like how they left your hair feeling, don’t give up, there is another option!

Solid shampoos, like those from Viva La Body and Beauty Kubes, are detergent or surfactant based, and are basically a solidified version of liquid shampoo.

Solid shampoos won’t leave you with that ‘sticky’ feeling some experience with traditional, soap based shampoo bars, but you do have to follow up with a solid conditioner.

What's the difference between our shampoo bars? | Biome Eco Stores

    Main ingredients

Our solid shampoo bars use natural, coconut based detergents, including Sodium Coco Sulphate and Sodium Cococyl Isethionate, to draw out dirt and oils and leave you with really clean hair. These ingredients are derived from natural ingredients and synthesised in a lab. They are however very safe to use and gentle on skin and hair.

Despite the ‘coco’ in the name these ingredients are not always derived from coconut oil. In many cases these ingredients are derived from palm oil, or a mix of coconut oil and palm oil. However at Biome, as we’re a palm oil free, truely cruelty free store, you can be assured that any product we stock that contains these ingredients we’ve received written verification and proof of them being completely coconut derived. This is important as palm oil production is a significant contributor to climate change, killing endangered animals, destroying virgin rainforests and leading to human rights abuses around the world, and we refuse to be part of that.

    Conditioner

As detergent or surfactant based solid shampoos are essentially a solid form of liquid shampoo, you will need to follow up with solid conditioner, otherwise your hair will be left feeling dry and straw-like. Don’t skip this step!

So if you’re looking at a Viva La Body,  Dindi Naturals of Beauty Kubes solid shampoo, be sure to pick up the range’s complimentary solid conditioner.
