• Three Ways to Reusable Wax Wraps

October 17, 2019 • DIY RECIPES, HOME, PLASTIC FREE / WASTE FREE

Reusable wax wraps have been a game changer for many households around Australia, helping people to significantly reduce their day to day single use plastic waste.

Use reusable wax wraps as you would plastic cling wrap – wrap up sandwiches and rolls, cut up fruit and vegetables, cheese and tofu. You can also cover plates and bowls, or make a little pocket out of them to hold things like nuts and popcorn.

You can buy them ready to go, but why not have some fun with DIY and make them yourself! Whatever you choose we have an option for you below.

Make Your Own Reusable Wax Wraps From Scratch

To make your own reusable beeswax or vegan wax wraps, you will need wax (beeswax or vegan candelilla wax), rosin, an oil (generally jojoba oil), and pieces of cotton fabric.

You can purchase these raw ingredients (including the waxes, gum rosin and oils) at any Biome store or online here >

And you can find our recipe to make your own reusable wax wraps here >

Some people find it tricky to get the ingredient ratio and consistency right when making their own reusable wax wraps. Even your local weather can influence results.  We recommend you experiment and play around with the ingredient quantities to find what works best for your situation.

Buy A Reusable Wax Wrap Kit

If experimenting with wax, oil and rosin ingredient ratios isn’t your thing, why not opt for a reusable wax wrap kit. These kits come with a premixed block of ingredients. You simply melt the block down apply it to your fabric and allow it to dry.

These kits are a great gift idea and a fun afternoon activity to do with kids.
