    Countertops, surfaces and general purpose

Collect citrus peels (any citrus is fine) in a large glass jar, and cover with white vinegar. Allow the peels to sit in the vinegar for several weeks before straining 1 cup of the vinegar into a reusable spray bottle. Dilute with one cup of water and shake to combine.

Add some fresh rosemary or thyme to the peel and vinegar mix if you have them on hand too!

Spray and wipe over counters, surfaces, around the fridge and in cupboards to clean. Avoid use on marble.

Store in a cool, dark place, out of sunlight (like in the fridge).

    Glass, windows and mirrors

In a reusable spray bottle, combine 1/4 cup vinegar, 1 cup of water, 1 teaspoon of cornflour and 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. Shake to combine.

Spray and wipe over glass, windows and mirrors to clean.

Store in a cool dark place out of sunlight.

Sinks, stoves, grout and other areas that need a scrub

Combine 1/2 cup of bi-carb soda with 3 teaspoons of liquid castile soap and 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Add more bi-carb soda or castile soap depending on the consistency you are after.

Use to clean sinks, stainless steel stoves, the oven, around taps and anywhere that needs a bit of a scrub.

This won’t keep, so use in the one go.

    Limescale and calcium build up

Cut a lemon in half and rub over shower screens or where there is limescale. Leave for 30 minutes before washing or wiping off.

    Microwave

In a glass jug or bowl, combine 1 cup of water and a lemon that has been cut in half. Run the microwave for four minutes, then wait one minute before opening the door. Remove the jug and wipe over the inside of the microwave with a cloth.

    Oven

Fill a large oven proof dish with water and add a lemon that has been cut in half. ‘Bake’ for 30-45 minutes at 200 degrees celsius. Allow the oven to cool without opening the door. Once the oven is cool, wipe over the inside of the oven with a cloth.

    Dishwasher

Place a lemon that has been cut in half in the cutlery compartment of an otherwise empty dishwasher. Run the dishwasher. At the end of the cycle, wipe over the inside of the dishwasher and clean out the filters.

What can you use to clean a house that uses an AussieKleen sewerage system? We’ve been told not to use essenial oils like Eucalytus or lemon, that are antibacterial as they will kill the good germs in the system.
