Make your own springtime citrus burst bath bombs

Are you ready to wash away winter and welcome spring? Our springtime citrus burst bath bombs will help you do just that, with their beautiful combination of uplifting essential oils, healing calendula petals and moisturising caster oil.

Bath bombs are incredibly easy to make, and are a fun and easy project with the kids since they don’t involve heating anything up or handling harsh chemicals.

All it takes to make your own bath bombs are simple natural ingredients that you can find in our four Brisbane stores and online here at our Naked Beauty Bar. You may even already have some of these ingredients in your pantry already.

Bi-carb (baking soda): reacts with the citric acid to create the fizziness.

Citric acid: reacts with bi-carb to create the fizziness.

Cornstarch: gives the bath bomb that ‘silky’ feel.

Oil: to bind the ingredients and leave your skin feeling soft, soothed and moisturised. Our use of caster oil is particularly good for soothing dry winter skin.

Scents, herbs and petals: use your favourite combination or choose essential oils, herbs and petals for their unique properties. In our recipe, we have selected a combination of uplifting essential oils that will help us shake off winter, and calendula petals for its soothing properties and natural colour.

    1. In a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder, grind the dried calendula petals down to a smooth, silky powder.
    2. Mix dry ingredients together in a glass bowl until combined.
    3. Slowly add the castor oil followed by the essential oils. Mix and squeeze together with your hands until it resembles damp sand.
    4. Divide the mixture into 5 equal portions and role each portion into a tight ball. You may like to roll some whole calendula petals into the ball to decorate (like we have done in our photo above).
    5. Let them set overnight, and air dry for another 24 hours after that.

    How To Use

This recipe makes enough for approximately 5 round 100g bath bombs.

To use, run a warm bath and drop one in. It should fizz and release a beautiful uplifting aroma. Take care leaving the bath or shower as it may be slippery. We recommend using 1-2 times a week.

Store in a sealed glass jar out of direct sunlight.

Tip: It’s best to make them in small regular batches like this and use within a month rather than storing them long term as certain temperatures and humidity can effect their fizz quality.
