DIY Nourishing Choc Mint Lip balm

This choc mint vegan lip balm will having you licking your lips all the way to Easter! Combining moisturising cocoa and shea butters, nourishing jojoba oil, real cocoa powder and 100% pure peppermint essential oil, this lip balm is super soft, smooth and makes for a great treat for chocolate lovers!

DIY Chocolate Peppermint Lip balm

Note: as this is not a lipstick the tint will be barely visible. This balm is beneficial for its moisturising and nourishing properties, and pure natural flavour, rather than colour. There are lots of 'natural' lip balms available that contain fake flavours, but this balm isn't one of them! We have used these compostable kraft paper push tubes, but you could also use a small tin or glass jar, or reuse an old lip balm tube.

Ingredients

  • ½ tablespoon cocoa butter
  • 1 tablespoon candelilla wax
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 1 teaspoon cacao powder
  • 4 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 3 x 10ml kraft paper lip balm tubes or 2 x 15ml containers of choice.

Method

  1. In a mason jar or glass jug, add the shea butter, cocoa butter, candelilla wax, coconut oil and jojoba oil.
  2. Place the jar or jug into a saucepan filled with approximately 5cm of water. Turn the heat to medium-low and heat until the wax has melted. Stir occasionally.
  3. Remove the jar from heat and stir in the cacao powder and essential oil. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined.
  4. Carefully pour the mixture into your lip balm tubes or containers. Leave to cool completely before sealing with the lid. This will ensure there is no moisture build up inside the lid, which could ruin your batch. Store out of direct sunlight and away from heat.

How To Use

Use as you normally would use a lip balm. Use within 6-9 months. This recipe makes enough to fill 4 x 10ml kraft push up tubes or 3 x 15ml containers. Recipe by Nancy George.
