Solitary Bees

There are over 1650 known species of Native Bees in Australia and most are Solitary Bees. Solitary bees play a vital role in pollinating our native flora and are also increasingly being valued as a pollinator for agricultural crops.

Most bees, including huge carpenter bees, resin bees and leaf cutter bees, of which there are many species, are solitary in the sense that every female is fertile, and typically inhabits a nest she constructs herself. There is no division of labor so these nests lack queens and worker bees for these species.
