Be prepared with the Freeplay emergency radio. This ultra-portable, versatile device is ideal to have on hand when you’re in the bush or camping. It also makes a great addition to any emergency-preparedness kit.

you are making a difference:

  • Solar powered, self-powered.
  • Turn the hand-crank to power radio, or capture the sun’s energy & run it on solar power.

  • AM/FM continuous play up to 12 hours.
  • Water resistant.
  • Built-in hand crank power generator recharges the internal rechargeable Ni-MH battery & mobile phone batteries.
  • Tuning dials only.
  • Never needs batteries.
  • Flashlight: built-in 3 white LED light source. Very bright light.
  • Emergency mobile phone charger via USB compatible cable included. Emergency mobile phone charging only takes place when winding the handle at 120rpm. Phone will not charge by battery or solar panel, it requires correct operation and turning speed of the handle. Electricity generated by winding the handle goes straight into the phone to charge it. Use for emergency calls only.
  • Earphone jack – 3.5 mm socket.
  • Mini USB camera port.
  • Can be powered from three different sources:
    • Solar power.
    • Dynamo crank.
    • USB port (cord not included).

Height: 63mm, Width: 130mm, Depth: 45mm, Weight: 220g

please note:

Prior to first use, to ensure that this product performs to its best, charge by winding for at least 20 minutes (this can be staggered over a few hours), or position the radio in direct sunlight, either outdoors or on a window sill, & leave for several hours. From then on it can be used on much shorter winding charges (just 90 seconds of winding is enough to have the radio going for a few minutes!)

Title : Scorpion Solar Powered Radio/Torch
Comment : I purchased the Scorpion Solar Radio/Torch to take camping. Have only tested it at home at the moment. Need to wind it quite a bit for it to build up the charge and haven't been able to use solar energy as yet which takes 8-10 hours. While I can get AM/FM radio reception I am unable to get any shortwave radio reception at all even though I can get SW on my other radios at home in Brisbane. This is disappointing. Otherwise I think it is a good sturdy unit and I hope it will do all that it promotes when we take it away camping/ bush walking.
