It all started with an innocent, curiosity-driven question: “What about a for-profit company based in Honduras that would create a positive social impact through its business?” Tegu began with the notion that the founders—brothers Chris and Will Haughey—wanted to help a country and its people, and they quickly discovered that Honduras could be home to beautiful, sustainably-harvested tropical hardwoods.
Tegu designs products to unlock the mind and inspire creative experiences which captivate children in safe, natural and innovative ways. The name Tegu is derived from Tegucigalpa,* the capital city of Honduras, where we manufacture Tegu blocks in our factory.
By paying our employees a living wage and prioritizing long-term career growth and development rather than simple task-based jobs, Tegu is bringing world-class employment standards to Central America. It’s not a handout— it’s a helping hand.
When harvested responsibly, wood is the most sustainable material available. That’s why we work with local Honduran cooperatives who individually hand pick each mature tree for use. These cooperatives are certied by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and their process facilitates the forest’s natural regeneration cycle. Additionally, we have partnered with local communities to support reforestation, donating a portion of revenue to replanting e-orts when Tegu blocks are sold.
“Click-Clack.” It’s the iconic sound of two Tegu blocks coming together. Tegu has reinvented the wooden block in a way that brings new life to a favored classic. Let the magical combination of magnets and beautiful Honduran hardwoods push and pull your imagination in ways never before possible.
Tegu blocks exceed all safety requirements mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, all our magnets are safely embedded inside responsibly sourced hardwoods and all our coatings are water-based and non-toxic.
