The Many Uses of Charcoal

Activated charcoal has a long history in medicine and natural remedies. It's use has been recorded as far back as 1550 BC and is still used today for various health and beauty treatments. Activated charcoal's main benefit is its ability to draw out toxins through a process called adsorbtion where molecules stick to the surface of the charcoal. This can be applied to many different uses for you and your home.

Teeth Whitening

Did you know brushing your teeth with activated charcoal powder will actually help whiten them? The charcoal draws out toxins and removes stains from teeth to leave them cleaner and whiter. The black powder easily washes off and doesn't stain your teeth. It is also safe to ingest in small quantities (activated charcoal is a common poison antidote), detoxes the mouth and eliminates bad breath. We recommend: My Magic Mud Natural Teeth Whitening Powder and EcoToothbrush Bamboo Charcoal

Skincare

Using the same principle as teeth whitening, activated charcoal can cleanse and detoxify your skin very effectively. Skincare products that have charcoal as an ingredient can absorb excess oil, soften roughness and generally improve overall skin condition. We recommend: Konjac Sponge - Bamboo Charcoal, Dindi Charcoal Palm Oil Free Soap, Beauty & the Bees Real Soap - Black Velvet Bamboo Charcoal, Ethique Bodywash Bar with Pumice and Charcoal, Kuu Konjac Gentleman's Shave Sponge

Water Filters

Because of its superior ability to detoxify, charcoal is a popular option for water filters. The charcoal mineralises tap water while reducing the pH and chlorine levels. We recommend: Binchotan Charcoal Filter Stick

Deodorise & Purify

Place a few sticks anywhere you wish to absorb unwanted smells such as your fridge, cat litter, laundry basket, sports shoes, and in your car. Binchotan charcoal has an incredibly porous surface with tiny cavities oriented in many directions. We recommend: Binchotan Charcoal Filter Stick These are just some of the uses of activated charcoal. What do you use it for?
