• Enjoy your daily cup with JOCO reusable glass (+ chance to win!)

by  • February 20, 2013 • foodie finds, personal style, reusables, staff picks • 81 Comments

Love coffee but dislike the waste and taste of throwaway plastic-coated paper cups?  We have a snazzy Australian-designed resuable GLASS coffee (or tea) cup to share with you.  Eco, ergonomical and elegant, let’s meet the JOCO reusable glass coffee cup.

We already know about the problems with disposable coffee cups, yet 2.25 billion of these single-use cups are used worldwide annually (that’s roughly 50 million trees worth).  Not to mention that most of disposable cups are made with a plastic coating that prevents them from being recycled.  Reusing a cup cuts down on landfill, decreases pressure on natural resources, and the energy costs associated with producing a disposable cup.

Australian business JOCO is helping to solve the problem with its glass contribution to the growing popularity of reusable coffee cups.  Taste and intelligence are what make JOCO the “Cups That Care”.  The simple philosophy: glass lasts longer, never affects flavour and looks good for the long run.

Designed with reusability and portability in mind, JOCO makes it super easy and enjoyable to reuse.  Made from tough, yet lightweight borosilicate glass, known for its resistance to thermal shock and heat retention.  In terms of taste, you’ll be happy to find out that the product is completely free of BPA and because glass is impermeable it does not impart anything into your drink.  The band is made from food-grade silicone (a synthetic rubber made from the world’s most available natural resource) – great for grip and thermal protection.

Other intelligent features: The cup is also designed with a cyclonic base which pulls sugar, or your other ingredients of choice,  into the center of your hot beverage (improves dissolving speed and thus taste!)  Form and function come together again in the shape of the lid, which is designed to give your nose clearance when you tip it back (amazing!)  Lastly, this reusable glass cup is available in a number of fashionable colours.

Love this cup?  Tell us why in the comments below & you could WIN!

We are giving away a pack containing 1 x JOCO reusable glass coffee cup + 2 x HighTrees Estate organic coffee (valued at $56.85) to one lucky blog follower*.

To be eligible for the draw you need to:

    (1) Follow our blog (if not already) by clicking on the Follow tab hovering in the bottom right of your screen, then;

     (2) Leave a comment below this post telling us what you think about the new JOCO cup and which colour JOCO cup you would like to win – and, please mention whether you’d be needing the ground coffee or whole coffee beans from HighTrees Estate!

I love that the JOCO cup is glass, should make it more durable than other options, I’d love to win an Orange JOCO cup with the whole coffee beans!

This looks fantastic! I hate using disposable cups, but hate the taste of metal as well – glass is perfect!! And the aqua colour is divine! Please could I have one of these gorgeous cups & some ground coffee?? Thank you! xx

What a fantastic product and about time. I use an eco cup all the time but find they don’t last long. When you first start using them they have a funny smell which after a while disappears. after using it a while the cup becomes stained and a little tattered. Everything tastes better in glass and I love a smooth strong cup of coffee. It’s my fuel for my roller coaster ride of life and there’s no room for DECAF passengers or cheap and nasty eco cups!!

    4. February 20, 2013 at 6:32 pm

I really love drinking from glass – not metal and cardboard just doesn’t do a good coffee justice! I love the look of this cup and would love to try this one!! :-)

How ingenious! And they look fantastic too. Glass sure makes any cuppa taste better and doesn’t go cold so quick,so I love that it is glass and the cyclonic base making things dissolve better. Do they make a green cup?

    6. February 20, 2013 at 6:51 pm

OMG this looks amazing!!!! This would eliminate that plastic-ky smell/taste and it looks fabulous! The whole thing looks to be geniously thought-out and made!

What a stylish little number! I really love that is BPA free and because it is made from glass means no nasties will leach into my much needed tea or coffee. It would be sensational to drink from the JOCO glass coffee cup in red with the HighTrees Estate ground coffee.

    9. February 20, 2013 at 7:19 pm

Wow! I love the design of the lid – no longer do you have to smoosh your nose up against the top or tip your head super far back to get the last dregs of your tea or coffee! I’m a huge tea drinker, and as I’m returning to Uni this year, I’d love to be able to use this in my lectures! Thanks for the info on the cup regardless :D

I agree the colour range is divine. Very sophisticated looking and the fact that it is ‘intelligent’ and made out of glass makes it a very classy vessel indeed. I’d love to rock one of these in my place of work, in my car, on the train, plane…heck everywhere! Reduce reuse recycle…to win one would be simply wonderful not too mention the whole coffee beans too. Thank you xox

Really like the fact it is borosilicate glass safe with children around too and so much nicer that the plastic alternatives. Even though there are ‘safe’ plastics it just doesn’t gel with me. I would Like to win the aqua colour!

      February 20, 2013 at 8:35 pm

I love the blue color! It’s so cute. I also like the fact that it’s glass because I always feel like metal containers affect the taste of my coffee.

The intelligent design of this cup is clear to see, the cyclonic base is very clever and the cup just looks so comfortable to hold and use, it would be a pleasure to carry around and show off to everyone, I know all my eco-friends will want one too! I love the mint colour, gorgeous! I’d like to win it in mint with whole coffee beans HighTrees Estate – yum!

      February 20, 2013 at 8:44 pm

This is so exciting! It is exactly what I have been looking for.
I made the decision a while ago to buy a reusable coffee cup, but didn’t. Why? I could find nothing on the market that would meet my specifications. Plastic…well, it’s plastic, you know the list is long. Silicone…great in theory, but just a bit too soft to be easy to handle. Ceramic even…usually the wrong size, and I’m just a little afraid it will chip. Borosilicate glass? Well now, that definitely fits the bill. Tough, elegant, light, long-lasting, no leaching. An eco-alternative to the eco-alternative.
The only thing now is to decide what colour. Hmm…mint please! A the ground coffee to go with it will be amazing for my stove-top coffee pot. Fingers crossed…

This cup is simply gorgeous. Drinking out of glass is a much better experience than plastic. And I love the colours!

Oops! And I’d love the coffee beans and the mint colour please

    19. February 20, 2013 at 9:00 pm

The coffee cup is smart & sassy, yet manages to look cute & classy. It’s earth friendly, it’s glass, lets be honest, it’s completely kick ass! Plus BPA free, that sounds perfect to me! if all of us changed to this…..then our world would be cleaner and filled with bliss. So please send me a beautiful JOCO in green, preferably with the full coffee bean!

Hurrah! A thoroughly thought through solution to combat the trauma of takeaway cafe latte!

My three year old daughter loves the red JOCO. It goes beautifully with pink and is perfect for her ” full of fluff ” Big Girl babycinos.

I drink decaf and we go to a brilliant cafe where they make a fantastic brew. Please award the HighTreesEstate coffee to someone else!

We’ll have a brilliant new red JOCO in hand!

I think reusable cups are fantastic!

The JOCO reusuable glass coffee cup is the most beautiful I have seen.

I would love to own a piece of this elegant intelligent design, in the funky blue colour.

Ground organic coffee from HighTress Estate would be a great way to start the day, making my first coffee in the plunger at home to take with me on the walk to work.

I think this is FABULOUS! It looks gorgeous and is functional as well – I have never liked the idea of drinking from silicone and plastics, and hot drinks from metal is a big ouch, so this really appeals to me!
Id love to win this in the red, and would be needing the ground coffee as well thanks. Good luck to me :-)

Love the glass. So clean and more sophisticated than plastic reusables. Yet very old-school too, with some functional tweaks. I’m very partial to the mint colour (but also love black)! Unfortunately ground beans for the time being. Thanks!

Australian design but are they Australian made from recycled glass? Is the silicone produced in Australia and bound by australian production and waste management standards? I hope so…
They are beautiful and I love that they will never interfere with the taste… And I would really love a mint green with course ground beans!!

Yes, yes YES!!! I have been wishing for this for a loooooong time. I hate the taste of the plastic cups when used for tea and never feel like I can clean them well enough.

I’ve nagged a couple of my local coffee shops for so long that they now stock and encourage keep cups. Boy will they be jealous.

Whole coffee beans all the way.

I LOVE this JOCO reusable cup. I have a few different reusable travel cups and while it’s ok for a coffee, anything other than glass changes to the taste of tea :( I also love the idea of using glass over other textiles. Now that my daughter loves her little warm drink treats, I’d love her to use glass. It looks so stylish too! The red one is my favourite. Oh, and coincidentally, JOCO almost looks like my initials!

FINALLY a glass reusable cup! These JOCO ones are by far the most elegant I’ve seen on the market. Can’t beat a coffee or tea in a proper glass cup and now we can have it on the go. Perfect. The red is my fave! And ground coffee all the way. Eeeeek exciting!!!

JOCO glass cups are gorgeous. Not just reusable but BPA free- no nasties hiding anywhere in their product or those delightful organic beans. Must support local business that supports what’s good. I say a green JOCO and whole beans if you be so kind to me. Good work!

Glass is always my cup of choice, for coffee or chai. I love to watch the milk slowly swirl into the tea or coffee, and glass feels somehow real and permanent in a way that plastic never does. Orange will serve to wake me in the morning and I always prefer to grind my own beans. Thank you.

      February 21, 2013 at 1:26 am

Gorgeous design! I’d love red, with whole beans please :)

    45. February 21, 2013 at 6:01 am

What a beautiful thing! The Glass component somehow makes it look less of a compromise than the twin-walled ceramic versions, which are so much smaller on the inside. I’d have to have one in black, even though mint, red and pink are lovely. In fact I think I’d have to collect them all, so I could choose, dependant on my mood. And my grinder is no-more, so ground beans would mean I could use it today!

I love the trendy JOCO reusable glass coffee cup. I love products that are environmentally friendly and supporting Australian businesses. I have 2 of the keep cups and they are fantastic. Would love to try the glass cup as I cook and store food in glass containers/ trays and it would match the beautiful glass jewellery that I wear. I especially love the mint colour. Thank you.

This cup is eco-stylish (if that is even a word!). Sleek appearance and intelligent too – with a lid that avoids the awkward nose bump when you sip.
I’d love a red or blue one with ground coffee beans… mm-mmmm!

      February 21, 2013 at 7:46 am

MMM I love a latte from ceramic or glass.
I have a really awesome super eco-friendly way to get take away coffee… use a normal old mug from your kitchen! wow! brainwave! It even comes complete with handle to make it easy to carry. There is one little problem,,,when I walk from the cafe to the office, the coffee goes kinda cold… I need a lid.
So how about I win me one of those fancy looking glass and silicon numbers to try out.
Yep mint green would do nicely. And whole beans of course… I’ll be hand grinding them myself thank you very much!

Hi Jo. You’ve given the idea here for a great product … We need a flexi-size lid that can fit a normal mug and make it spill proof etc. Let’s put it out there and perhaps someone will come up with the design.

Hi there, The glass cup seems like a good proposition to me because I can actually see the froth and the chocolate on my morning cap (and any sugar that has not dissolved on the bottom)! Sadly lacking in the reusable plastic cups.
I’d love the acqua coloured cup and the ground coffee! Fingers crossed!

Hi, I checked out all the colours and I love the Mint shade that you have in your pictures above. This is a fantastic idea and will be my favourite coffee mug, sharing first place with my Best Mum in the World mug from the kids! And I’d love the whole coffee beans, thankyou.

I love that it is made from a reinforced glass – making it easy to keep clean and makes for a much more pleasant drinking experience. All the colours are beautiful. I would love a brown coffee mug (although any colour would do!) and would prefer beans to ground.

These are exactly what I have been looking for, reusable coffee cup that helps the environment and keeps the wonderful taste of your coffee. The aqua or red colour looks great but I would be delighted to win any colour at all!! And ground coffee would be great too. Well done.

They are just gorgeous! Very nice streamlined style. I’d love to try them with my tea as well. I love my keep cup but find my tea is not quite the same out of it or my thermos. I think these gorgeous little glass cups could be my answer. If I was to be so lucky I’d love the mint please (but love them all), and whole beans would be super.

A reusable cup made out of glass!
Wow that beats drinking from brass?!
The reinforcing means I shouldn’t make a dint
The colours are delightful, my favourite is mint
I’d like my beans to come whole
I’ll enjoy them with a cinnamon scroll

    60. Jackie
      February 21, 2013 at 2:53 pm

The JOCO reusable glass coffee cups look stylish but more importantly the grips are wide allowing you to hold you cup more comfortably. The use of borosilicate glass is smart and good quality for its function and I love that it won’t impart a taste to my drinks. The red colour is eye-catching and coffee grounds would surely get the java flowing.

Have any Biome employees tried it out yet with hot drinks? I own a Keep Cup but now use it as a cold water cup since the plastic holds onto tastes and smells and the silicone band got too hot to handle with hot drinks.

Also a tech issue: there are no descriptors for the fields to fill. I guessed the first was name and the second was e-mail, but I’m not sure what to put for the third, but the largest box was obviously for comments.

As a non coffee drinker with a coffee lovlng partner I think the JOCO glass coffee cup will be the solution to my problem. In the 10 years we have been together he has used the same grotty old re-usable coffee cup that is a pain in the butt to clean….and it always spills in the car. I have suggested he upgrade to a ceramic re-usable cup but he thinks they are too thick and clunky. The classy JOCO re-usable glass coffee cup in black is sure to meet his criteria for a new re-usable cup being so fine and stylish. The coffee grinder is a familiar sound in our house and while I don’t share the joy of drinking it, I do love the smell!

I love the simple and stylish design of the JOCO cup- it makes me want to commute with the masses!!!

I love the aqua cup, it would make a fresh start to the day. I’d love this as part if my morning ritual making coffee and grinding my whole beans freshly each day.

I like my Hookturn cup, but it does smell of coffee so I can’t use if for anything else. I love the idea of a shock-resistant glass cup – good thinking! I would like a black cup and ground coffee beans.

Finally someone has taken the next logical step with re-useable cups!
Being a daily beach walker and living alongside a National Park it is amazing, especially in this age of environmental awareness, how many disposable plastic bottles and cups my children and I retrieve and throw in the bin.
Joco, this should give people the incentive to ‘do the right thing’!
Aqua would be my choice in colour and ground beans.
      Thank you, Anna

ooh it’s available in different colours? How cool… off to have a squiz…
I am keen because being back at UNI, I take my Fairtrade Organic tea bags, but didn’t even think about the cups (because I so rarely buy take away coffee). If I won this though, I would be set and maybe, just maybe, UNI being what it is, the trend would really take off and maybe the cafe would recognise the demand for eco coffee/tea cups and supply a recycle/reuse thing or a discount if you bring your own… now that would be cool.
I like that it’s Aussie, I like the colour options, I like that it’s clear and I like that it’s different enough from throwaway cups to be noticed, but not too different to make it too hard to use.

      But I digress…

Um colour… I would probably go the ‘mint’ so it stands out and maybe becomes a talking point (and less chance of someone accidentally binning it)! I think the ground coffee would be very welcome at our place as well, if we are that lucky! Cheers for the chance :)

I have been eyeballing the JOCO cup since the first time I saw it. I love that it is glass, so it won’t get stained and take on coffee taste like the plastic ones for those times I want to drink tea. I hadn’t yet bought one because I felt guilty since I have a Keepcup and didn’t want to generate waste. But after 6 years of hard wear, it leaks and I find I often don’t have it with me.

I used to just bring a mug from home to my local, but pushing a pram has made that impossible.

I would love an orange one and either whole or ground beans would be nice:)

      Thanks Joco!

I love everything about the Joco cup. The branding/packaging/website is so well done and the customization makes it easy to put some of your personality into your daily coffee cup compared to the boring thermos cups everyone uses. Not to mention everything about the company makes an effort to go green and use high quality materials.

I would LOVE to win an orange Joco cup along with the ground version of the coffee.

      Thank you!

I’ve loved the JOCO cups ever since I first saw them. I like KeepCup’s but I just can’t get used to drinking coffee from plastic so the glass JOCO sounds great. I also love JOCO’s packaging, their great website, and the fact that they are a local company.

I would love an orange JOCO (although it will mean I have to buy the other colours for my wife and kids!) and the whole beans.

      Thanks guys.

What an amazing cup! I own a recycled glass drinking bottle which I purchased from biome and get so many great comments and questions where I got it from. A Joco glass coffee cup would complement the bottle nicely and bring a lot of great coffee drinking moments. Such a treat for the environment and myself. I love the look of the aqua cup and would very much appreciate the whole beans please. Thank you for the opportunity!

I have always believed that beauty is everywhere and in everything we do…………..didn’t entirely connect that thought to my morning coffee…………..but now I can!!!!!! Eco and Fashionably Smart, Can’t get better than that!

I would be thrilled to win a blue joco glass coffee cup with whole coffee beans to make my morning coffee even more satisfying ;)
