Get this classic look without synthetic or harmful ingredients using Inika mineral makeup in 6 easy steps. (+ CHANCE TO WIN INIKA MAKEUP!)

We love using Inika mineral makeup because it is both natural and beautiful.  Inika goes the extra mile with its environmental awareness, with a long list of eco credentials (to name a few: all products are certified cruelty-free, boxes are made from recycled materials, and wherever possible their products are certified organic).

Before we get started, it’s a good time to reiterate that the key to flawless makeup is blending. This is especially true with the dark colours used for a smokey eye as unevenness and harsh lines are highlighted. So remember, blending is your friend!

    1. Apply a little Inika pure primer (1) to the lid of your eye and blend upward (this will help the eyeshadow stay put for longer).

    2. Apply Inika eyeliner in black caviar (6) just above the upper lash line, and to the lower lash line. Once applied, run your finger over to carefully smudge the lines. At this stage, you can line to the lower inner rim of the eye if you like this look.

    3. Using the Inika shadow brush (2), apply Inika mineral eyeshadow in thunder (4) to the lid of your eye starting at your lash line, blending up but stopping dark colour at the crease. Blend shadow at the lash line until any harsh eyeliner line disappears.

    4. If you have lined the inner rim of your eye, set the liner using the Inika angle brush (3) to pat a little more of the Inika mineral eyeshadow in thunder (4) over the rim of the eye. Take care to tap off any excess eyeshadow powder from the brush beforehand to avoid any irritation to your eye.

    5. Using the Inika shadow brush (2), apply a little Inika mineral eyeshadow in platinum (5) as a highlighter to the brow bone. You can also add dimension to this look by applying this shade to the middle of the eyelid in a downward line and blending outward slightly.

    6. Finish the look with several coats of Inika mascara in black (7), and remember to pair with subtle, nude lips (try Inika lip whip in Apricot or Melon).

Also, if you’ve always thought a smokey eye based on black seems a little harsh for you, or for a daytime look, replace the above with brown tones by using (4) Inika eyeshadow in coco and (5) gold dust, (6) Inika eyeliner in coco, and (7) Inika mascara in brown.

    :: WIN ::

Inika has given a prize pack of 3 essentials for the perfect smokey eye (1 x Inika mascara in black, 1 x Inika eyeliner in black caviar and  1 x Inika shadow brush, valued at $96.85).

To be eligible for the draw you need to:

    (1) Follow our blog (if not already) by clicking on the Follow tab hovering in the bottom right of your screen, then;

I’d love to TRY Inika makeup – I’m hearing so much about how wonderful it is, and I really want to bulk up my make-up collection with more eco-friendly and skin-friendly options – so I can lose the chemicals!

Natural make up which gives me the assurance I won’t be harming my skin but also supporting a company that uses recycleable materials is a must for anyone who not only wants to take care of themselves but the earth too.

I love Inika mineral make up because I care a great deal about my skin and the earth and they are ethically produced, natural cosmetics with incredible performance and colours! It feels so light on and doesn’t clog my pores, or rub off after a few hours! It is 100% Certified Vegan, 100% Certified Halal & Cruelty Free, Australian owned & Australian made which are all fantastic and highly worthy reasons to support Inika!

I’d love to try Inika – would love for all my makeup to be chemical free and this would be a great opportunity to head that way!

I have sensitive eyes and most mascara and eyeliner irritates them and makes them red and swollen, Inika doesn’t affect me at all and makes me feel beautiful and natural. Love Inika!

The last time I had my makeup done was when I was in New York last year for my 40th and some new Inika makeup would make me feel like I was back there again.

i only use natural organic products on my two children but when I found my toddler mouthing all of my not so organic beauty items I vowed only to bring items into my home that are natural. I need to start treating my skin like my babies skin!

Wow! Who wouldn’t want to try Inika!! Good for you and the planet. It doesn’t get much better than that. Now that I am using only people and Earth friendly skincare, it is my aim to replace my make-up one item at a time with the Inika products I keep reading about. And the first item to need replacing… my mascara!

i would love to try inika make up – it would be great to cover the dark circles from a long night with a teething bubba. I would love to feel just a little glam without using products that contain nasties that could potentially harm my family.

I’d love to try Inika makeup. I’ve only heard good things about it so I’m planning to buy some to use on myself and bridesmaids at my upcoming wedding which I’ve been planning a strong focus on sustainability and checking where things we use come from. It can be exhausting, but it is made a lot easier when I find quality brands with a good reputation for caring about the things I also care about – such as Inika.

What wonderful comments! Since ditching mainstream beauty products my skin and eyes seem more sensitive to what I do put on them – discerning I say! So I have a basic perk-me-up stash going but oh for smokey eyes for a night out – that would be perfection.

Ever since I was turned onto mineral make up, I try to use it as much as possible. My skin doesn’t react to it at all and I am very interested to learn that Inika is even organic as possible.

This technique sounds like a winner – and I would totally use the day option of brown tones as well. All my old standard makeup is languishing in the vanity cupboard because I have no desire to use it anymore – too much chemical gunk seeping in to my skin. I would be so much more comfortable using Inika, and intend on trying it very soon.

I am a mother of 3 young children and have not used makeup since BC and am starting to venture out into the real world again. None of my makeup works or is full of of chemicals I have been so careful to avoid since having children 7 years ago. inika would be ideal for me to express the creative side I have neglected in such a long time.

I would love to try Inika as I really struggle to find quality cruelty free make up, so much so that I very rarely buy anything. These products are eco friendly, cruelty free and look great. I would love to give them a try so I know what to buy in future (and to give the smokey eye tutorial a go)! Thanks :)

I haven’t used make up since the 80′s (probably a good thing!), mostly due to sensitive skin and ethical issues. I am getting married in October and all of a sudden I seem to need it. To be honest, I had no idea where to start when your email arrived but judging by the comments so far, Inika looks well worth investigating. So I am following the lead and entering the competition!

Love to try it – my eyes become red and sore with most make-up so I avoid using much. Would be great to have an option for those occasions where a little make-up is called for.

I’ve been using mineral make-up for years and I’m so happy that I found INIKA. I have very red, sensitive skin and it’s also very oily which makes finding a make-up for me very hard.

INIKA stays put all day, doesn’t make my face hurt or break out and gives me a nice even skin tone. The eyebrow pencil is gorgeous and the blush and eye shadows are to die for, I love the colours and the way they are so versatile. Work or party I always look my best with INIKA.

I have always wanted to try Inika. I support cruelty-free companies and products.

    27. June 22, 2012 at 9:21 am

I’ve tried a smokey eye effect before. The result has been less smokey and more scary. Think it’s time I moved on from using make up samples and my lacking skills and buy propoer, professional product that will give a look that’s not just smokey, but straight up hot!

It would be wonderful to work with a mineral makeup which gives the eyes a stunning look and yet is natural and doesn’t irritate one’s eyes.

Having sensitive skin and strong ethics about animal testing and petro chemicals I am always on the look out for pure and natural makeup. I have used Inika mineral make up in the past and loved it, mixing a small amount with a drop of organic rosehip oil to create a creamy but nourishing coverage. I am getting married this October and on the look out for some natural makeup to complete my vintage eco look and think the smoky eye would work just perfectly. I am doing my own makeup so would love to have an opportunity to have a play with the whole Inika range so I can be the blushing (but sustainable) bride I aspire to be! ;)

I would love to try Inika! I’m currently using other natural mineral makeup yet have a few areas I still need to swap over and haven’t found a mascara I’m really happy with yet. I’ve heard great things about Inika and would love to be able to have a try of them.
Getting great makeup without nasties included is tricky, and not cheap when you include the ones you try that aren’t up to scratch. It would be great if I fell in love with it (as many people swear they do) as I’ve always found your stores so wonderful to shop at and your online ordering so easy- it would really simplify life to be able to get my makeup from you, delivered to my door as needed.

I love smokey eyes as a base,
Nude lips are never out of place,
It’s always been my ideal case:
Keeping cruelty and waste at bay,
An Inika face is my only way.

    35. June 22, 2012 at 2:05 pm

I’ve always wanted to try the smokey look, but have always been a little scared… but after reading your easy how to I think I’m ready to give it a shot… and armed with Inika I’d reckon I couldn’t go wrong. Miranda Bond’s story is so inspirational. I just goes to show how big an impact the products we surround ourselves have on our health and just how important it is to get rid of all those products with the nasty ingredients.

Loved the tips – will be sure to give it a go.
slowly but surely I have been changing my lifestyle – only shopping at thrift stores for clothing, composting, recycling and now I have been vegetarian for 6 months.
Inspired by the thought that our skin is a direct reflection of what we put into and on our bodies.
Gone are the chemical perfumes, deoderants and creams…my last step is of course make up – trying to use up what I have.
What better timing than now to complete another step!

I’d love to try out some Inika make up products because I’ve heard fab things about them! I always “play it safe” with colours so maybe some smokey eyes would funk things up a bit for me as well :)
